Welcome to the new Lost Remote
A decade ago, I started Lost Remote with the slogan, “The TV Revolution is Coming. Are You Ready?” It’s safe to say the revolution has arrived, and that explains why I’ve been neglecting Lost Remote over the last few months.
That’s because I’ve always wanted to participate in the revolution, not just write about it. I work at msnbc.com, and my wife and I have built a promising hyperlocal startup, Next Door Media. Things have been a little busy, but I’m not ready to give up on Lost Remote just yet.
So I’ve switched the site to Tumblr, a microblogging platform that embraces the “following” culture. It allows me to easily post brief bits of content about the business of journalism, which are shared via Twitter, RSS and Facebook. You can share your comments, too. Think of it as a distributed aggregator of short-form content and links. The new metric won’t be page views, but “followers.”
The biggest difference, however, will be the switch to personal publishing. LR has been a group blog for years, but I’m selfishly taking it back. I’ll be adding (even) more personal stuff in here, like some of my projects at msnbc.com and Next Door Media. There’s something about the “following” culture that’s more personal than a group blog, and I’m going to give it a try. (Stay tuned for the jobs board, which I will keep and migrate to the new platform.)
My sincere thanks to Don Day (@), David Johnson (@), Matt Sokoloff (@) and Liz Foreman (@) for contributing to Lost Remote the last few years! I’m very appreciative. And you’ll see me referencing their blog posts and Tweets from time to time.
Please note this is not the end of Lost Remote, but a new beginning. The content will remain focused on the future of television and local media, but with more of an emphasis on “the business of journalism.” Hope you like the new approach, and thank you for your patience.
